Henry Glavin

Henry Glavin’s mixed-media depictions of solitary homes and interiors have an elegiac aura and demonstrate the artist’s keen eye for the particularities of both architecture and landscape. In his richly hued works, Glavin captures the uneasy tension underscoring a darkened bedroom at dusk or a house lit by a single lightbulb; he similarly renders the loneliness of a shuttered boathouse in winter. In his work, Glavin utilizes acrylic, ink, graphite, and scraps of paper taken from magazines, granting his otherwise pared-back naturalism a heightened texture and a sense of cobbled-together dreaminess. This technique imbues the artist’s pieces with a sense of narrative, even as they depict mostly static elements. Glavin has extensively exhibited in New York, and in 2016 he participated in the Vermont Studio Center Residency Fellowship.
